The Vaisala Polaris PR53AC is a sanitary compact process refractometer engineered for inline measurement of liquid concentrations, such as Brix, in hygienic environments. It is specifically designed for the food, beverage, dairy, and brewery industries, as well as for OEMs. This refractometer adheres to stringent hygienic and safety standards, holding 3-A and EHEDG certifications. Its optical measurement principle relies on the refractive index (RI), which responds to dissolved material and remains unaffected by bubbles, particles, suspended solids, or color in the process stream. The PR53AC offers exceptional long-term stability, ensuring years of accurate, continuous, fast, and stable measurements without the need for moving parts or regular maintenance. It can be easily installed directly into pipelines using a sanitary clamp and optional flow cells, and is compatible with the Indigo520.

Key Features

Reliable Optical Measurement: Provides accurate concentration measurements using the refractive index (RI). RI can be measured in almost any liquid and responds to dissolved materials.
Broad Measurement Capabilities: Measures Brix, Total Solids, Oechsle, Baume, Plato, and over 500 other concentration curves. It also includes measurements for sucrose, gelatin, lactulose, and hydrogen peroxide. The refractometer comes pre-configured with the selected concentration curve.
Hygienic Design: 3-A and EHEDG certified, compatible with cleaning-in-place (CIP) and sterilization-in-place (SIP) systems. Wetted parts are made of stainless steel, PTFE, and sapphire for direct process contact and traceability. Stainless steel is easy to maintain.
Robust and Flexible Installation: Not affected by bubbles, particles, suspended solids, or color. The long probe allows representative measurements in tanks and hot processes (e.g., jam cooking). It supports sanitary and tank bottom flange couplings and enables installation depths up to 170 mm. A flush mount option is available for tanks with scrapers or mixers.
Maintenance-Free: Inline process refractometers are easy to install and have no moving parts requiring regular maintenance. Most applications do not require wash systems due to a self-cleaning effect from process flow shear force. For demanding applications, a powerful wash system ensures correct measurements in sticky conditions.
Indigo520 Compatible: Can be directly interfaced or connected to a Vaisala Indigo520 transmitter, providing data storage, a graphical interface, and analog and digital interfaces. The Indigo520 transmitter is required for process control when washing is needed due to application or installation. Settings, measurement parameters, and updates can be managed directly from Indigo520 or via USB cable with Vaisala software.
